El Dr. Glass se graduó del Erasmus Hall High School de Brooklyn en 1959; posteriormente realizó una especialidad en Química en el Brooklyn College de la ciudad de Nueva York.

En 1968, obtuvo el grado de Doctor en Química por la Universidad de Chicago gracias a sus estudios realizados sobre la teoría de los movimientos atómicos en líquidos simples. 

Fue becario postdoctoral en el área de Inteligencia y percepción de máquinas de la Universidad de Edimburgo, Biología Teórica en la Universidad de Chicago y Física y Astronomía en la Universidad de Rochester.
