RESEARCH
What do we research in our laboratory?
Nonlinear analysis of cardiovascular signals in different patient groups.
Non-invasive identification of predictors of ventricular cardiac arrhythmias and risk of sudden cardiac death.
Anxiety, depression, and nutritional status in chronic kidney disease patients.
Methodological design, data analysis, and interpretation applied to medical and health sciences.
To illustrate our research approach with an example, Figure 1 shows a conceptual diagram of the variables we typically use in the study of arterial hypotension during hemodialysis (outcome or dependent variable). We measure cardiovascular signals (such as heart rate and blood pressure) in which we observe how external stimuli (orthostatic challenge, hemodialysis) modify the autonomic response and other characteristics (observed responses) that we measure with various methods. We also consider the potential influence of antecedent variables such as patients' clinical and treatment characteristics.
